For 40 years the Stokes Bros Store was a central hub for Old Saybrook daily life. Folks socialized, bought their groceries, hardware, and even had clothes laundered.
In 2020 the Historic District Commission of Old Saybrook launched a restoration project to restore two degraded Sheffield Street painted ghost sign advertisements, the Crowley Real Estate sign, and a Stokes Bros sign. The Crowley sign has been successfully restored. Fundraising for the Stokes sign has been completed. Look for the new Stokes sign this fall!
While fundraising for this particular project has closed, tote bags are still available.
